Winter Updates at Yellowstone Airport

February 1, 2022

Yellowstone Airport (WYS) is a seasonal airport that closes each winter and has done so since its inception in 1965. During the winter a third-party testing company leases the airfield for additional revenues while the airport is dormant. This company tests a myriad of products, primarily focusing on cold weather and snow performance. Winter tires, snowblowers, snowmobiles, and automobiles are some of the many different types of equipment tested at the airport each season.

WYS will open for General Aviation (GA) traffic later this spring with Commercial Airline Service commencing on May 5, 2022.
